In a letter to Torres-García dated January 24, 1917 Brussels, Roberto J. Payró described this painting in his collection, writing “I often stop to admire it, it is one of the most classical things you painted...although, when looking at it closely, it is not at all classical because it lacks classical impassiveness, and although it is peaceful, it has warmth, deep feeling, and the love of nature the romantics tried to convey, but was most deeply felt by realists and impressionists.” (translated from a letter in the archives of the Museo Torres-García)
