Torres-Garcia met Claude Orejuela in New York. In the artist's autobiography, Historia de mi Vida, he describes Orejuela as "the Aragonese friend of Torres, whose fate landed him here [in New York], and he is a rebel. He studied the violin, painted, had dreams, and wanted to live freely (un aragonés amigo de Torres, a quien el azar llevó allí, y que es un rebelde. Estudia el víolin, pinta, tiene ensueños, y quiere vivir libremente...)" (p. 155)
